Aminophylline is manufactured by adding a strong aqueous solution of ethylenediamine to solid theophylline that is agitated in an appropriate vessel. Here, two moles of theophylline react with one mole of ethylenediamine to produce Aminophylline. It is worth mentioning here that there are some issues annexed with this method of preparation of Aminophylline at the commercial level e.g. formation of product lumps.

Some of the conditions for which this medication can be used include acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (AECB), asthma, bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and certain other conditions that can lead to respiratory constrictions.

For oral use in the form of tablets, the recommended dosage of Aminophylline varies for different age groups. For children above one and adults, starting with 380 mg per day is recommended. Taking medicine after every 7-8 hours is most ideal, the only thing that one needs to be mindful of is that the total dose per day must not exceed the figure of 760mg. For an older age group, this number is around 500 mg per day.
